Fire-Alarm Impairment Watch

Fire-Alarm Impairment Fire Watch in Cincinnati

When a fire alarm control panel is offline, in trouble, partially disabled, or taken out of service for repair, programming, or renovation work, the building loses its automatic ability to detect and announce a fire. 513 Firewatch supplies trained personnel who patrol the affected areas on the interval your authority having jurisdiction, impairment plan, or facility policy requires, and who document every round in writing.

System-impairment fire watch is primarily governed by the Ohio Fire Code, the applicable fire-code official, the property's impairment procedures, and approved post orders.

Review fire watch compliance requirements

What our personnel do during an alarm impairment

  • Walk an assigned patrol route covering the impaired detection zones, mechanical spaces, exit paths, and any areas identified in the post orders
  • Look for smoke, unusual heat, burning odors, blocked egress, propped fire doors, and other visible hazards
  • Maintain a date- and time-recorded fire-watch log for each round
  • Notify occupants and the designated property representative of observed conditions
  • Contact 911 and initiate the property's emergency procedures if a fire or emergency condition is discovered
  • Assist with evacuation communication as directed by the post orders
  • Record the release of the watch once the property representative confirms the system has been restored

Information we confirm before deployment

Accurate scoping keeps the watch defensible if it is reviewed later. Before personnel are assigned we confirm the property address and access instructions, which system is impaired and why, which floors or zones are affected, whether the building is occupied, the patrol frequency being required, the requested start time and expected duration, the on-site point of contact, and the authority having jurisdiction or permit driving the requirement.

What this service is not

513 Firewatch does not inspect, test, certify, reset, disable, repair, or install fire alarm equipment, and does not replace a working alarm system. A fire watch is a temporary human substitute for automatic detection while your alarm contractor completes the repair and your authority having jurisdiction authorizes restoration.

Fire-Alarm Impairment Questions

How often must patrols be completed during an alarm impairment?

There is no single universal interval. Patrol frequency is set by the authority having jurisdiction, the permit or impairment plan, facility policy, or client-approved post orders. Tell us the interval you have been given and we staff to it.

Can coverage start the same day an alarm fails?

Often yes. We coordinate rapid-response deployment based on current availability, the property location, and the scope required. Call dispatch to confirm an actual start time for your property.
